Juan Carlos I Park

The Juan Carlos I Park is located in the northern part of Madrid and is relatively recent, inaugurated in 1992. It is the great green lung of neighbourhoods such as Timón, Barajas, Corralejos, Alameda de Osuna, La Piovera and Palomas.

With 160 hectares, it is considerably larger than the centrally located El Retiro Park, second only to the Valdebebas - Felipe VI forest park. It is also unique for its completely circular shape, with outer rings to quickly encircle the park and multiple minor paths and trails to walk around it in any direction.

Part of the land that currently makes up the park was once the famous Olivar de Hinojosa. In fact, more than 2,000 specimens of centenary olive trees are still preserved in entire sectors of the park dedicated to them.

In addition, the Juan Carlos I Park has a strong sporting character. It has several sectors dedicated to outdoor activities, from sport fishing to skating. It has special recreational areas for dogs, children and the elderly.

The main design of this green space was made to celebrate Madrid's status as European Capital of Culture three decades ago. In the centre of the scheme you will find the Garden of the Three Cultures, with architecture, sculpture and vegetation with Christian, Jewish and Islamic motifs.
