Perché dovrebbe far parte del tuo tour?

Vienna is generally known as the capital of music, so it's fitting that it's home to a monument paying tribute to one of the greatest composers of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Mozart Monument, located in the Burggarten, is an impressive sculpture that celebrates the life and musical legacy of this Austrian genius.

The monument was originally unveiled in 1896 at Albertinaplatz, just five days after the death of its sculptor, Viktor Tilgner. After the Allied bombing of Vienna in March 1945 during World War II, it was restored and relocated to the Burggarten, near the Hofburg Palace.

The statue portrays Mozart in a majestic pose, holding a musical score in one hand and a quill in the other, capturing the essence of his musical brilliance and lasting legacy. In front of the tribute, there is a floral design shaped like a treble clef. The ensemble is crafted from Lasa marble from Val Venosta in South Tyrol and dark diorite.

On the front, an attached relief depicts two scenes from Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni." Behind it, we see the composer as a six-year-old child playing for his father Leopold and his sister Nannerl.

Vienna has a close association with Mozart, as it was in this city that he spent a significant part of his life and composed many of his masterpieces. The Mozart Monument stands as a fitting tribute to his brilliant musical career and the profound influence he has had on classical music and the artistic world in general.

In addition to being a beautiful work of art, the Mozart Monument also serves as a meeting point for classical music enthusiasts and tourists who want to learn more about the life and work of the renowned composer. It's common to see street musicians playing Mozart's melodies in the vicinity of the monument. Discover one of Vienna's most beloved and photographed attractions!
