This imposing cathedral is located on Museum Island in the heart of Berlin. Also known as Berliner Dom, it is one of the city's most iconic landmarks and an important religious centre of the Lutheran church.
The Berlin Cathedral was built between 1894 and 1905 in neo-Renaissance and neo-baroque style under the design of the architect Julius Raschdorff, one of the most prominent architects of the second half of the 19th century. The Dom was witness to recent German history: during the Second World War, the cathedral was badly damaged and it was not until 1993 that reconstruction began.
With its majestic dome, rising to a height of over 100 metres, the Berlin Cathedral is an impressive landmark on the city's skyline. Inside, you can see magnificent frescoes and statues from the Baroque era, as well as a collection of religious art and historical artefacts.
One of the highlights of the cathedral is the panoramic view of Berlin from the top of its dome. After climbing more than 270 steps, you can enjoy a spectacular view, surrounded by the river Spree and looking out over West Berlin.
If you like classical and religious music, it has an impressive concert hall. With its pipe organ of more than 7,000 pieces (one of the largest in Europe), you can catch some of its weekly services.
