Pourquoi devrait-il faire partie de ta tournée?

Most visitors to Barcelona are surprised to learn that there is an Egyptian Museum in the Catalan capital, located in the heart of the tourist centre. Since its inauguration in 1994, it has established itself as a must-see destination for lovers of Ancient Egyptian history and culture. Despite being thousands of kilometres away from the Nile, the museum masterfully recreates the mystery and grandeur of one of the most amazing civilisations.

This unique space boasts a rich collection spanning more than 2,000 years of Egyptian history, from the Old Kingdom to the Coptic era. Its rooms are divided by theme and contain a wide variety of artefacts, such as sarcophagi, amulets, statues, papyri and mummies, which will give you an insight into the funerary rituals, religion and daily life of the ancient civilisation of the Nile.

What makes the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona special is its didactic approach and the passion with which it presents Egyptian history to the public. The detailed explanations and layout of the pieces will guide you on a journey through time, as you discover the symbolism of the objects and the fascinating cosmogony that surrounds them. It is a very comfortable museum to visit and you can appreciate all the details of the collection up close.

In addition, the museum offers guided tours and interactive activities for all ages, making it an educational and entertaining place for the whole family. The museum is under the auspices of the Clos Archaeological Foundation, named after the magnate who collected much of the 1200 pieces that make up the inventory.

When we went there were temporary exhibitions on the Temple of Ptolemy I and the Centenary of the Discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb, both not to be missed! We loved our visit, if you are an archaeology enthusiast or if you are attracted by the wonders of Egypt, the Egyptian Museum in Barcelona will be one of the best you will see. You can see the different sections of the museum in a special video we recorded of our visit here.
