Why visit Seville

Seville is the capital of Andalusia, the largest region in Spain. It has almost three thousand years of history, from the culture of Tartessos and Phoenician trade as a privileged enclave on the Guadalquivir. It then flourished as the Roman Hispalis and the Visigothic Spali.

For 700 years, Seville received its Islamic imprint, still visible today. In modern times, it was the connecting link between Europe and the New World for the Spanish crown. Finally, the city managed to preserve its historical charm despite recent industrialization and urban reforms.

The Alcazar, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a testament to the mix of architectural styles that have influenced the city. In addition, the Triana neighborhood, on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, offers an authentic experience with its flamenco bars (of which Seville is the birthplace) and ceramic workshops.

The most visited space every year is the Plaza de España with its unique architecture, created for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. It's an unmissable place to immerse yourself in Seville's history and elegance. Nearby, the Maria Luisa Park attracts with its numerous cultural events, from the European Film Festival to Holy Week processions.

Sevillian cuisine is a feast for the senses. From traditional tapas to fresh fish dishes, every bite reflects the rich culinary heritage of the region. Sevilla's joy is so infectious that even though it turns into a "frying pan" in the summer due to high temperatures, it remains one of Spain's most chosen destinations! Because of its dynamism and joy, Sevilla is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe to discover at night.

10 Museums, Galleries and Palaces

The palatial complexes and museums of Seville are extraordinary. You can explore diverse and fascinating themes, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the General Archive of the Indies, or the Museum of Arts and Popular Cultures. For history enthusiasts, the Archbishop's Palace and the Casa de Pilatos symbolize the modern splendor of Seville.

If you're short on time in the city, prioritize the Alcazar, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You won't regret it when you see its impressive ornate courtyards, majestic halls, and lush gardens with exotic plant species from around the world. The palace is the oldest in Europe still fulfilling its function!

14 Monuments and Landmarks

From the Isabel II Bridge to the imposing San Telmo Palace, each monument tells the unique story of Seville. The most outstanding is the majestic Plaza de España, witness to the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, with tiled benches for each Spanish province. Explore military history at the Torre del Oro or marvel at the contemporary architecture of the Setas de Sevilla. Many buildings surprise you as you stroll by, like the Royal Tobacco Factory or the Columns of Hercules Monument.

8 Churches and Temples

If you're drawn to religious tourism, in Seville, you can enjoy the grand Cathedral, the world's largest Gothic church, housing Christopher Columbus's tomb. Also noteworthy are the Basilica of La Macarena, with its icon of the Virgin, or the Convent of Mother of God, contrasting with its sobriety and cloister. Don't miss the grand Collegiate Church of El Salvador, with its spectacular main altarpiece and an atmosphere that testifies to the Spanish colonial hegemony.

12 Squares and Parks

During your visit to Seville, the Plaza de España is an absolute must-see, an architectural masterpiece that blends the history of Hispanic culture with the best of Sevillian art. The Gardens of María Luisa and the Gardens of Murillo are two of the city's green lungs: with their ponds and shaded avenues, they are perfect for a tranquil break. Also, explore the historic Plaza del Cabildo with its ancient walls or the modern Plaza de la Encarnación, providing a clever contrast in the midst of Seville's historic district.

3 Experiences and Activities

If you have some extra time after your tours, or if you prefer to explore Seville in a more "hands-on" way, we recommend several activities. You can book a tour to the White Villages of Andalusia or Huelva, stroll through Triana in an afternoon, or take a cruise on the Guadalquivir River – it's up to you!
